Introduction and Your Consent

This Privacy Policy explains how MoneyTrace ("we", "us", or "our"), operated by Sunshine Lab, collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use our expense tracking application, MoneyTrace ("the App"). Please read this Privacy Policy carefully to understand our practices regarding your information and how we will treat it.

By accessing or using the App, you acknowledge and agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the App.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information when you use the App:

  • User-Provided Account Information: When you create an account, you may provide information such as your name, email address, and other registration details. This information is used for account authentication and to enable optional server backup.
  • Financial Transaction Data: This includes the expenses, incomes, categories, virtual wallets, and other financial details you input into the App. Consistent with our offline-first design, this data is primarily stored *locally on your device* and is only backed up to our servers if you choose to sign in and explicitly enable server backup.
  • Device Information: We may automatically collect device-specific information, such as your device model, operating system, and unique device identifiers. This helps us ensure compatibility and improve performance.
  • Usage Information: We may collect general, anonymized information about your usage of the App, such as the features you use (e.g., "wallets created," "transactions logged"), the frequency of your usage, and the duration of your sessions. This helps us understand overall user behavior.
  • Analytics and Crash Data: We use third-party analytics tools, such as Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics, to collect information about the performance of the App, crash reports, and aggregate usage statistics. This data is typically anonymized or pseudonymized and helps us identify bugs and improve stability.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the App's functionality and user experience.
  • Authenticate your identity when you use the App's optional server backup feature.
  • Respond to your requests, inquiries, and support needs.
  • Monitor and analyze usage and trends to improve the App's functionality and user experience.
  • Detect, prevent, and address any technical issues, fraud, or abuse of the App.
  • Enforce our terms and conditions and comply with legal obligations.

3. Sharing of Your Information

We may share your information in the following circumstances:

  • With third-party service providers that help us operate the App and provide certain services. This includes Google and Apple for authentication purposes (if you choose to sign in), and Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics for anonymized analytics and crash reports. These providers are obligated to protect your information.
  • When required by law or to respond to valid legal process, such as a subpoena, court order, or government request.
  • To protect the rights, property, or safety of MoneyTrace, our users, or the public, in accordance with applicable law.
  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of our assets, in which case your information may be transferred to the new owner, subject to their commitment to protect your information in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy.

Your financial transaction data, which is stored locally by default, is never shared with third parties unless you explicitly opt-in to our server backup feature, and even then, it's for the sole purpose of providing you the backup service.

4. Data Storage and Security

MoneyTrace is designed as an offline-first application. This means that your financial transaction data is primarily stored locally and securely on your device by default.

When you choose to sign in and back up your data to our server, we use industry-standard security measures (e.g., encryption) to protect your data both during transmission and while stored on our servers. While no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure, we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Information.

5. International Data Transfers

If you utilize our optional server backup feature, the information you provide, including your financial transaction data, may be transferred to, processed, and stored on servers located outside of your country of residence (e.g., in the United States), which may have different data protection laws than your country.

By using the App and opting for server backup, you acknowledge and agree to such transfers. We implement appropriate safeguards to ensure your data remains protected when transferred internationally.

6. Your Choices

You have control over your data:

  • Account Deletion: You may request account deletion within the App's settings. We will process your request within 30 days of receiving it. Upon deletion, all information associated with your account, including any server-backed up data, will be removed from our systems. Please note that some information may remain in our records after your account has been deleted to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
  • Data Management: If you wish to update, correct, or view any of your personal information stored on our servers (if you have opted for backup), please contact us using the contact information provided below. For data stored locally on your device, you can manage it directly within the App.

7. Children's Privacy

MoneyTrace is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 13.

If you are a parent or guardian and you become aware that your child has provided us with Personal Information without your consent, please contact us. If we become aware that we have collected Personal Information from children without verification of parental consent, we take steps to remove that information from our servers.

8. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated Privacy Policy on our website or within the App.

Your continued use of the App after any changes to this Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy. We encourage you to periodically review this Privacy Policy to stay informed about our privacy practices.

9. Third-Party Services

The App may contain links to third-party websites or services, or integrate with third-party services for specific functionalities such as authentication (Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In) and analytics/crash reporting (Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics).

We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing them with any information or using their services.

10. Advertising

MoneyTrace may display advertisements within the App to support its free operation. These advertisements are not based on your personal financial data or your specific usage of the App's features. We do not share your financial data with advertising partners.

If we introduce options to remove ads through future premium services, those terms will be clearly outlined in our Terms of Service and updated Privacy Policy.
